An Exhibition of recent Paintings and Drawings by Barbara Becker

     The joy of painting every day in her studio became a dream come true for artist Barbara Becker; who prior to the lockdown in March 2020 was teaching in National Schools. “For the first time in my life I didn’t feel guilty taking time to develop my skills and ideas in oil paint. I was being told to stay home! In the past I always had to grab some time here and there to do my own work while I poured a lot of creative energy into teaching.”

     Barbara has been an artist all her life and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Education (Visual Arts) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney where she was born and grew up.

     “My life has been a wild ride full of adventures and travel. My husband Paul and I had a horse ranch in Northern New Mexico for ten years and then we moved to Tasmania. We have always been drawn to remote and beautiful places and teaching has sustained me wherever we were. West Cork is now our home; the most beautiful, wild, mysterious place we have ever known. And strangely enough the circumstances of a global pandemic gave me my first stab at being a full-time artist. My paintings and drawings are about the beauty I see around me every day. Taking on the medium of oil paint has allowed me to analyse light and shadow and express the power of colour.”
